Pirates Place Four at State

5-19-2012 The
Ventura College men's and women's track and field
teams had four athletes place in their respective
events at the state championships.
Amber Panapa earned All-American honors with a
lifetime best throw in the discus (144-3) to claim
third place in the competition. Meanwhile
Keshona Grier (javelin),
Bennie Kirkwood (high jump) and
Phillip Hanley (pole vault and high jump) all
competed well, placing in each of their specialties.
"Those were good efforts," head coach
Tony Veney

VC's Stanfield Second in State

Andy Stanfield
picked a great day to play great golf.
Stanfield, VC's lone entry in the state
championship tournament held Monday in Santa
Maria, placed second. He opened the
day with a championship-low 66 on the par-71
course, and came in with a 76 in the
afternoon round, totaling a level-par 142
for the 36-hole event. The individual
medalist from College of the Desert shot a
139.

Bacelar
Completes Rare Triple

When her winning streak was
snapped on her first match of the CCCAA
state championships Thursday afternoon,
Julianna Bacelar didn't know if she had
enough energy to go on. Turns out, she had
enough to win another nine matches over
three days and make history at the Balboa
Tennis Center in San Diego. The freshman
from Goiana, Brazil, completed an incredible
freshman season Saturday, when she added the
state singles and doubles championships to
the team title she won with her teammates on

Track & Field Sends Four to State

5-12-2012 Four Ventura College Pirate Track and Field athletes advanced to the 2012 CCCAA State Finals Saturday at the SoCal Regional Championships at San Diego Mesa. The women were lead by
Amber Panapa's third place finish in the discus, while
Keshona Grier placed fourth in the javelin. The men were headed by double qualifier,
Phillip Hanley's fifth place finish in the pole vault and second place in the high jump. Meanwhile,
Bennie Kirkwood also advanced in the high jump with the same height cleared as Hanley but was placed in a tie for fifth on misses.
