Box Score

MBB  12-3-2011  The Pirates' men's basketball team hosted No.1-ranked Citrus College Saturday at the Athletic Event Center, giving the Owls quite a game.  VC, however, did not have enough in the tank for a strong finish, and Citrus came away with a hard-fought 103-93 win over the Pirates.  Zalmico Harmon finished with 27 points and eight assists to lead Ventura and Joesph Soto contributed 21.  Austin Ramljak scored 16 points and Brandon Edwards came off the bench to score 11 points on a perfect night from the field.

Freshmen Soto and Harmon kept the Pirates in the game in the first half, scoring 16 points each. Ventura's defense rebounding also allowed them to stay in the game. Ventura (3-5) trailed by one, 46-45 at the break, thanks to late lay up from Eric Mitchell.

In the second half, the Pirates were able to stay within striking distance thanks to strong play from reserve forward Edwards, who was a perfect 3-3 from behind the arc.  The Owls extended their lead to as much as 13 points thanks to sloppy play from the Pirates and key mistakes during what looked like could have been the beginnings of Pirate runs.  VC was able trim the lead to as little as six, but could get no closer.

The schedule doesn't get any easier for VC as they head to the annual Saddleback Gaucho classic. Dec. 8-10 in Mission Viejo.  This year's field has four of top 10 teams in the state. The Pirates will face the always talented and highly ranked tournament host, Saddleback College, on Thursday Dec. 8 at 7:00 pm.
