All-Western State
Conference team in a
vote by conference
coaches last month.
Pirate freshman

Katelyn Kwake,
who led the team and
was fourth in the
conference in digs,
was the lone first
team selection.

Shelbee Younce
and freshman
Morgan Ehritt
were named
second-team
all-conference while
sophomore
Anne Westbrook
and freshman
Leandra Romero
earned an honorable
mention nod.

Volleyball Wins at OC to Close Season

The Ventura College women's volleyball
team was victorious
in its season finale Tuesday night, defeating Oxnard
College 25-13, 25-27, 25-23, 25-16. The
Pirates were led by sophomores
Anne Westbrook (eight kills),
Shelbee Younce (29 assists), and
Estephanie Cerda (15 digs) all playing in their
final match for the orange and black. Freshmen
Morgan Ehritt and
Katelyn Kwake had eight kills and 14 digs,
respectively. The Pirates finish the season
with an overall record of 8-12 and 4-6 in the
Western State Conference.

Spikers Fall In Five at Hancock

The Pirates' women's volleyball
team dropped a
five-set match Friday night in Santa Maria, falling
to the Bulldogs from Allan Hancock College 25-23,
13-25, 25-19, 22-25, 15-17.
Morgan Ehritt led Ventura (7-12, 3-6) with 14
kills and 16 digs.
Shelbee Younce had 41 assists on the night while
Katelyn Kwake had 18 digs.
Kyla Hernandez had eight kills for the Pirates,
who close their season Tuesday Nov. 16 at Oxnard
College at 7:00 pm.

Volleyball Drops Home Finale

There were no
dramatic comeback this time around. After
defeating the Cuesta Cougars in five sets, winning
the final 10 points against match point in their
last meeting, the Ventura College women's volleyball
team was looking for another victory. The
Cougars were ready for redemption, however, sweeping
the Pirates 14-25, 13-25, 14-25 Tuesday night at the
Athletic Event Center. Sophomore
Estephanie Cerda led VC with six kills in her
final home match. It was also the final
appearance at the Athletic Event Center for
sophomores
Jessica Lara,
Sandra Alvarez,
Anne Westbrook, and
Shelbee Younce.

The Pirates' women's
volleyball team
dropped a match at
Moorpark College in
four sets, 25-16,
20-25, 10-25, 25-27,
Friday night at
Raider Pavilion.
Anne Westbrook
led Ventura (7-10,
3-4) with 12 kills
while
Morgan Ehritt
had seven kills.
Shelbee Younce
marked 28 assists
and 12 digs.
Katelyn Kwake
had 29 digs for VC
and
Sandra Alvarez
had three blocks.
Ventura will return
to the Athletic
Event Center for its
final home match of
the season on
Tuesday Nov. 9
against Cuesta
College. The
match is scheduled
to begin at 7:00 pm
with a pre-game

sophomore class.

had 32 assists and
Katelyn Kwake
had 16 digs. The
Pirates (7-9, 3-3) will travel to Moorpark College
on Friday Nov. 5
before returning for
their final home
match of the season
on Tuesday Nov. 9
against Cuesta
College. Both
matches are
scheduled to begin
at 7:00 pm.
The Cuesta match is
also sophomore night
where VC's sophomore
players will be
honored before the
match.

Spikers Rally to Defeat Cuesta

The Pirates were down to their last chance,
literally. After splitting the first four sets
of their match at Cuesta, the Ventura College
volleyball team was facing match point, down 14-6 in
the fifth. Then the incredible happened.
With zero margin of error, VC (5-8, 1-2) scored the
final 10 points of the match to defeat the Cougars
(7-7, 1-2) 19-25, 25-22, 16-25, 25-19, 16-14 in
their Western State Conference contest in San Luis
Obispo Tuesday night.
Shelbee Younce led the way with 31 assists and
26 digs while
Anne Westbrook had nine kills and four blocks.
Morgan Ehritt contributed 17 digs and
Katelyn Kwake added 12 digs.

The Ventura College volleyball team fought hard, but
ultimately fell to Moorpark in four sets, 15-25,
15-25, 27-25, 17-25, Friday night at the Athletic
Event Center in a Western State Conference North
match.
Shelbee Younce had eight kills, 19 assists, 13
digs, and three blocks to lead the Pirates all
around the court.
Anne Westbrook
had 10 kills and three blocks while
Katelyn Kwake
had 18 digs.
Estephanie
Cerda contributed five kills and six digs to the
Ventura (4-8, 0-2) effort.

Volleyball Drops WSC Opener

Coming into Western State Conference North Division
play, the Ventura College volleyball team was riding
a three-ma
tch winning streak.
That streak came to an end at the hands of Santa
Barbara City College 3-0 (20-25, 20-25, 12-25) in
the WSC opener for both teams at the Sports Pavilion
in Santa Barbara Tuesday night.
Katelyn Kwake had 27 digs on defense, and
Shelbee Younce had 19 assists for VC while
Morgan Ehritt had five kills and nine digs.
Anne Westbrook
had a pair of blocks for the Pirates (4-7, 0-1).

Younce Leads Spikers Past Alumni 3-0

The Pirates' volleyball team defeated their Alumni
team on Friday night 3-0 (25-20, 25-18, 25-22) at
the Athletic Event Center. Sophomore
Shelbee Younce led VC all-around with eight
kills, 14 assists, and 13 digs.
Estephanie Cerda produced four kills, three
aces, and 12 digs while
Morgan Ehritt had four kills, a pair of aces,
and four blocks at the net.
Leandra Romero contributed 12 digs.

Pirates Win Second Straight Match

The Ventura College
volleyball team won its second straight match, and
its first one on the road, in its 3-1 victory at
Glendale College Friday evening. The Pirates
(3-6) won a close first set 26-24 before the
Vaquero's pulled even in the second 25-21. VC
dominated the third set 25-12 before closing out the
match 25-20 in the fourth.

The Pirate volleyball team came from behind in the
fourth and deciding
set to defeat the
Citrus Owls 3-1
(25-20, 19-25,
25-23, 25-23) in
action at the VC
Athletic Event
Center Tuesday
night.
Trailing by four
points in the fourth
set, 23-19, Ventura
(2-6) rallied for
six straight winners
to clinch the match.

College volleyball
team lost a very
close 3-1 decision
to the Santa Monica
Corsairs Tuesday
night at the
Athletic Event
Center. The
Pirates dropped the
first set of the
match 22-25 before
coming back strong
in the second 25-13
to even things out.
in a pivotal third
set, VC dropped a
heartbreaker 24-26,
and could not
recover in the
fourth, falling
20-25 to clinch it
for Santa Monica
(3-2).

Pirate Volleyball Falls at Fullerton

After winning their first and only home match of the
season, this far, on Tuesday, the Pirates hit the
road once again to take on the Fullerton College in
Orange County Friday night. VC fell in straight sets
to the Hornets 25-16, 25-16, 25-16. Ventura
has closed out its non-Western State Conference
schedule, and will play three inter-divisional
matches before opening WSC North play.

opener, they notched
their first victory
of the season in a

Volleyball Team Shows Improvement Despite Losses

The Pirates' women's
volleyball showed steady improvement Friday at the
El Camino College Quad despite suffering a pair of
straight-set losses to perennial powers Los Angeles
Pierce and El Camino colleges. The Pirates
dropped the first match against El Camino, a
constant state title contender and a state
tournament participant a year ago 7-25, 9-25, and
11-25 before falling to WSC-South powerhouse LA
Pierce 15-25, 20-25, and 17-25. Despite the
losses, VC head coach
Mandy
Rodriguez felt the team's effort and execution
improved throughout the day's matches.

VC Spikers Extend Long Beach to Five Sets

The Ventura College women's volleyball
continued their early season road show
Friday night with a hard-fought 3-2 loss at
Long Beach City College. The Pirates
fell in the first set 25-27 before winning
the second 25-21. The Vikings bounced
back to take the third set 25-18 before VC
answered in the fourth 28-26. Long
Beach won the fifth and deciding set 15-9 to
take the match.

Pirate Volleyball Falls at Bakersfield

The VC Pirate volleyball team dropped its
opening match of the season 3-0 at
Bakersfield College Wednesday evening.
After falling 25-12 in the opening set, VC
bounced back to make the second one close,
25-22. The Pirates were defeated in
the clincher 25-21.
Shelbee Younce led Ventura with 13 assists
and seven kills while Sandra Alvarez had six
kills.

Pirate Volleyball Team Ready for New Season

Ventura College Pirates’ Volleyball team officially
began practice August 16 with 13 players, including
six returnees. The Pirates have been meshing well so
far, as the sophomores, led by Co-captains Shelby
Younce and Anne Westbrook, have been setting a daily
example of intensity and a team-first attitude.
