WBB   3-16-2012  Pirate sophomore Destinee LaFountain has become the ninth player in team history to earn All-American honors, earning an honorable mention nod on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association list for 2011-12.  LaFountain, the California State co-Player of the Year, led VC (32-2) to their 22nd consecutive Western State Conference title and into the State Final Four.  She averaged 12.4 points and 11.0 rebounds, both team highs, becoming the first Pirate since 1992-93 to average a double-double for two years.  READ MORE...

 WBB  3-9-2012 The fates can be cruel.  The Ventura College women’s basketball team was a group who found a knack of winning close games.  With an outstanding defense and an offense that always found a way to get the job done, they had won all 11 contests this season that were close down the stretch, until Friday.  With their offense struggling, the Pirate defense was great again, giving VC a chance down the stretch in the State Final Four against Foothill, at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento.  Rebecca Griffin hit a 3-pointer with 1:27 remaining in the game, bringing Ventura to within two points, 42-40, but they would get no closer, falling in the state semifinal 49-43.  Griffin netted a game-high 14 points and Destinee LaFountain pulled down 24 rebounds with seven points, as the Pirates closed their season with a stellar 32-2 record.   READ MORE...
