The Ventura College women's soccer team

VC Soccer Does a Little Forward Thinking
WSoc
11-19-2010
from the Ventura County Star
It was a crisis of conscience. Growing up
playing for the Oxnard Wave and Pacifica High,
Monique Orocio would find herself in front of
goal and her eyes would be searching for a teammate,
rather than an opening. The voice in the back of
her head would remind her, “Don’t be a ball hog.”
Said Orocio: “I would never shoot the ball.” When
once she imagined every shot would dribble right
into the goalkeeper’s waiting arms, Orocio has
developed into a goal scoring phenomenon as a
19-year-old sophomore for the Ventura College
women’s soccer team.
