Funded by a college block grant in Spring Semester 1997, the Mediated Learning Center offers classes in Math 1 (Elementary Algebra),  Math 3 (Intermediate Algebra) and Math 4 (College Algebra) currently located in SCI-232.

Using an interactive software program called Interactive Mathematics, students encountered a series of comprehensive mathematics instruction in an engaging and challenging interactive multi-media environment. Using text, hypertext, visualizations, animation, graphics, audio and video, the lessons accommodate students' individual learning styles.

Working in the Center, which consists of 40 Dell computers networked to a Dell server, students expressed praise for the new method of learning. Comments from students follow:

• "I like 'computerized math' so much."
• "I like the fact that I can learn at my own pace. I don't have to sit in a class lecture hearing and learning things that I already know and be held back by students who don't understand."
• "I feel that I have learned so much more from this system in 10 weeks than I have ever learned in all my other math classes combined."
• "I love learning at my own pace without the bother of useless lectures."
• "It is more interesting visually!"
• "The computer has the ability to vary the learning with interesting drawings, colors and interactive presentations."
• "The lessons can be repeated as many times as you want. With the chalkboard lectures, once class is over, it's gone."
