Chapter 1 Molecular Modeling
You must install the Chime plug-in to view the molecular files.
Problem 1: Open the Aspirin.mol file and create the following electrostatic representation for aspirin in some other orientation. Print out your aspirin molecule, answer the questions and turn it in.

To create this representation, use the right mouse button to show the menu, click Display and Ball & Stick. Bring up the menu again and click Select/Display List/Create Molecular Surface. Next Select/Display List/Toggle Transparency. Finally click Select/Display List/Color/Electrostatic Potential/Color Red-White-Blue. PLAY WITH THE PROGRAM! |
| Electrostatic representation of aspirin. | Questions: What is represented by the darkest red and darkest blue colors. What is the hybridization of each carbon in the molecule? |
