Course Description: |
CHEM V01B - GENERAL CHEMISTRY II - 3 Units
Prerequisite: CHEM V01A with grade of C or better Hours: 3 lecture weekly This course presents a detailed study of chemical equilibrium, kinetics, electrochemistry, chemical thermodynamics, and an introduction to organic chemistry and nuclear reactions. Formerly Chem 1B. Transfer credit: CSU; UC. CAN CHEM 4 [with CHEM V01BL] or CAN CHEM SEQ A [with CHEM V01A+V01AL+V01BL]. |
On-line
chapter quizzes will be given on the days denoted by the symbol
.
These quizzes will cover the assigned reading material, and homework listed for
the chapter. . Quizzes will be available for 24 hours from the
dates indicated at the website indicated above. It is up to you to remember when
these quizzes are to be
taken.
You are expected to have completed the assigned reading and homework for a particular date before coming to lecture on that date. It is highly recommended that you have as much homework completed before class as possible. The homework problems are intended to be completed after the lecture on the date listed. Working all assigned homework problems is essential to success in chemistry. The homework will be graded. In working the homework assignments, it is best to have read the textbook and studied the lecture material first. Try to work each problem as if it were a question on an examination. If you cannot answer the problem correctly, go back and reread the text and your lecture notes pertaining to the topic. If more help is needed, go to the instructor's office hour, see tutors, and form study groups. Homework due dates are shown below and will usually be on first day scheduled for the next chapter.

It
is your responsibility to be present at the times scheduled for
exams. THERE WILL BE NO MAKEUP EXAMS GIVEN IN THIS COURSE.
The Final exam will only be given on the day it is scheduled. If you must miss an exam due to illness, the course grade will be determined by
substituting the score for the final exam for the exam missed. Cheating is a serious offense. If you
cheat on any quiz, assignment or exam, the minimum penalty is a grade of zero
for that work. Your conduct may also be referred to the Student Conduct Committee
for assessment of a more severe penalty.
