Properties of Exponents

Problems 1-5

Problem No. 3 - Find:

When you multiple variables or numbers with the same base, you add the exponents.

Problem No. 4 - Find:

Problem No. 8 - Find:

When you divide variables or numbers with the same base, you subtract the exponents.

If the numerator has an exponent larger than the denominator, the difference will be an exponent in the numerator. If the denominator has an exponent larger that the numerator, the difference will be in the denominator. Until further notice all exponents must be answered with a positive value.

Problem No. 10 - Find:

Problem No. 12 - Find:

When you raise a power to a power, you multiply the exponents.

Problem No. 14 - Find:

Problem No. 16 - Find:

Problem No. 19 - Find:

When you raise a product to a power, you raise each factor to that power.

Problem No. 20 - Find:

Remember when you divide variables or numbers with like terms, you subtract exponents. Also when you subtract exponents, the smaller exponent is subtracted from the larger and the result is put in the numerator or denominator whichever is the larger exponent. Such as: the a² would be put in the denominator, because the started out in the denominator. It is the largest exponent.

Problem No. 23 - Find: 5º Any letter or number raised to the zero (0) power is always 1.  So:                           5º = 1

Problem No. 28 - Find:       2¹ - (3x)º + 3¹

                                             2  -    1   + 3   =   4
