AS THE COACHES SEE IT

03/19/2003

It was quiet in the locker room and the silence was deep. In a gentle voice Coach Mircetic put the loss in perspective, "you, and I mean each and everyone of you, put everything you had out on that court tonight, you do not have anything to regret. To the sophomores, it has been a privilege to have coached you"  With those words the Ventura College Pirates, 2002-2003, ended their season. We packed up our bags and headed out to meet our fans...

Kelly Fay, Sarah Queen, Kristine Gleisberg and Leshelle Sargent ended their careers at Ventura College. During their years at VC they won 67 games and lost 5.  Sarah, Kelly and Leshelle are State Champions and anyone who knows Kristine knows that she too is a champion.

As Ventura readies to leave for the state championships they find themselves matched with Butte, the number 4 seed from the north. Ventura Head Coach Ned Mircetic does not agree that Butte should be seated fourth, "They are a very  good team that is extremely athletic and  they get out on the break with grace and speed." They have "one of the best point guards in the state who can run for hours and is a pin point passer"   She is matched with a 6'1 center who "runs the floor and can catch anything that comes near her." They are famous for going over the top on the break and could cause serious damage to the Ventura transition defense. To quote Coach Ellis, "against Butte we better find a defensive back to stop their wide receiver or we are in trouble."

Ventura report

03/12

Ventura's last practice for the sophomores in their own gym was a good one. It is the belief of the coaching staff that as a unit we are ready...to quote Coach Christine, "we have covered everything we can basketball wise, now all we can do is PLAY HARD AND PRAY!"

Emily Lewis, who was lost to the pirates midseason due to a knee injury , will be on the Pirate bench with her uniform handy just in case she is needed. This is reassuring to the coaching staff as she feels, if needed, she could play and this kid can play!

Trish and Courtney are still feeling ill but will play Friday night...we hope

The Pirates will leave Thursday at around 10:00 am.

Courtney Young sat out of practice with a mild case of the flu.

Trisha Kawasaki was pulled out of practice as she too had a sore throat and all those flu symptoms.

Sarah Queen is still recovering from the SB game but she will be ready to go on Friday.

The rest of the team is healthy and looking forward to Friday at 7:00 o'clock.
