Ventura 108, Allan Hancock College 56

     On a night when Ventura College honored its 1951 and 1952 men's state championship teams, and the 1996 and 1997 women's state championship teams, the VC women played like champions in their 108-56 rout of visiting Allan Hancock College.  The Pirates (16-3, 3-0) scored 30 seconds into the game and never looked back against the Lady Bulldogs (1-3, 5-13).

     Courtney Young and Kristine Gleisberg scored VC's first eight points in the games opening minutes, and the Pirates raced to leads of 10-2 (16:34 left in the first half), 24-7 (11:58), and 38-15 (6:38).  Lottie Kanama scored two of her 10 points in the half with 2:49 remaining giving VC a 52-18 advantage.  Ventura led at the break 56-23.  The Pirate attack continued in the second stanza, as every player scored in the 52-point victory.

     Gleisberg led the team in scoring with 17 points, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the field, and had five steals.  Young scored 16 points while Medina Britt and Kanama contributed 13 and 12 points, respectively.  Sascha Pack scored nine points with seven assists while Shannon Antunez tallied nine points and led VC with six rebounds.  As a team, the Pirates shot 57 percent from the floor (44-77) and 81 percent from the free throw line (13-16).  The Pirates only turned the ball over 14 times while forcing 33 Hancock turnovers.

     Ventura will take to the court again on Wednesday Jan. 21 at Oxnard College.  Game time is 5:30pm.  The Ventura College men's team will follow at 7:30pm.
