  July 20, 2006    The program completed another successful run of the We Play Hard Basketball Camp for Boys and Girls.  In the two weeks of camps, 191 young players participated and learned some of what "We Play Hard"  means at Ventura College.  See Photos of Week 1 and Week 2.

 

  July 10, 2006    Buena High School defeated Valencia High School to win their third consecutive Golden State Tournament crown.  Ventura High School won the consolation championship and Ventura's JV's were tops in their division.  See Tournament Results 

 

  June 24, 2006    The Q104-7 DJ's defeated the VC Alumnae Team 75-70 in the 6th Annual Jox vs. Jocks fundraising game benefiting Ventura Breakers Youth Basketball, the Ventura Galaxy Basketball Club, and VC Women's Basketball.  See Details of the Event...

  Feb. 25, 2006    A season that had more twists and turns than Mr. Toad's Wild Ride came to a crashing halt as the Pirates dropped their Southern California Regional Playoff opener to Imperial Valley 83-70 at the Athletic Event Center.  READ MORE...

 

  Feb. 20, 2006    Ventura College (23-9) received the #6 seed in the Southern California Regional Playoffs and will host #11 Imperial Valley (23-9) on Saturday Feb. 25 at 5:30 pm at the Athletic Event Center.  READ MORE...

 

  Feb. 19, 2006    Four Pirates were voted onto the Western State Conference North Division All-Conference team at the post-season coaches meeting on February 19.  The Ventura honorees include sophomores Rebecca Kolbeck and McKena Richardson, and freshmen Sandy Perry and Veronica WilliamsREAD MORE...

 

  Feb. 18, 2006    It took the Pirates a while to get over the post-"16-Peat" hangover from the previous game, but they finally prevailed over a scrappy Cuesta Cougar team 56-46 on another rainy night in San Luis Obispo. (see slideshow) READ MORE...

  Feb. 15, 2005    It was a sweet 16 for the Pirates a they used a strong defensive effort and a balanced offensive attack to defeat the Moorpark Raiders 63-53, clinching outright their 16th consecutive WSC North Championship.  The win was VC's 34th consecutive victory over their cross-county rivals, and their 85th straight home conference win under Coach Ned Mircetic dating back to the 1990-91 season.  (see slideshowREAD MORE...

 

  Feb. 11, 2006    McKena Richardson had a career night for the Pirates with 27 points, five rebounds, and four steals to lead VC to a 67-59 victory over Citrus in Ventura's annual barbeque fundraising game in front of 800 fans at the Athletic Event Center. (see slideshow)  READ MORE...

 

  Feb. 8, 2006    It was a record setting evening for the Pirates in their 64-18 victory at Oxnard.  The VC defense tied a record for the least points allowed in a half as the Condors were held to four points in the second half.  Additionally, the Ventura win coupled with Cuesta's 49-44 loss to LA Pierce clinched at least a tie for the WSC North championship for the Pirates, their 16th consecutive conference title.  Finally, with the victory, the Pirates reach the 20-win plateau for the 17th consecutive season.  (see slideshowREAD MORE... 

 

  Feb. 4, 2006    Playing without injured guard Sandy Perry for the first time all season, the Pirates responded with one of best team efforts of the season in a 72-61 victory over a scrappy Allan Hancock team.  Veronica Williams had another strong performance with 19 points and five rebounds to lead VC, who maintains a one game lead over Cuesta in the WSC North race with three games remaining.  READ MORE...

 

  Feb. 1, 2006    On the way to the game, the Pirates stopped off at the bakery and picked up about three dozen turnovers, and gave all but three away to the Pierce College Brahmas.  But through all the pastries, Ventura rallied from a three point halftime deficit to defeat Pierce 67-49 in WSC North play (see slideshow).   Jan. 28, 2006    If the VC-Santa Barbara game (see post-game slideshow) was broadcast on ESPN Saturday night, it would be on ESPN Classic as one of their "instant classics" on Sunday morning.  In a game that had just about everything, the Pirates prevailed 74-63 in double-overtime to take sole possession of first place in the WSC North, putting them one game ahead of the Vaqueros and the Cuesta Cougars and in the driver's seat to win their 16th consecutive conference title.  READ MORE...

 

  Jan. 25, 2006    Ventura rebounded from a poor effort in the first half to defeat Cuesta 70-58 at the Athletic Event Center.  Responding to a 28-25 halftime deficit, the Pirates came out strong in the final period, outscoring the Cougars 45-30 to set up a showdown with Santa Barbara for first place in the WSC North on Saturday night.  READ MORE...

  Jan. 21, 2006    There were times during the game when one could have been watching the Pirate team from 1996 instead of 2006, as Ventura used a couple of old fashioned offensive spurts to defeat Moorpark 60-51.  The win was the Pirates' fourth in a row, their longest winning streak of the season, and it was the 33rd consecutive victory for VC over the Raiders, dating back to 1991.  READ MORE...

 

  Jan. 14, 2006    Ventura showed some signs of life, especially in the second half, as the Pirates defeated the Oxnard Condors 82-38 at the Athletic Event Center.  VC shot a season-best 62.5 percent (20-32) from the floor in the second period to turn a 23-point halftime lead into the 44-point blow-out.  READ MORE...

 

  Jan. 11, 2006    When the Pirates arrived in Santa Maria for their game at Allan Hancock College, a fog was settling in over the community.  That fog remained over the VC offense for 20 minutes before the Pirates pulled away in the second half for a 70-44 win over the Lady Bulldogs.  READ MORE...

 

  Jan. 7, 2006    Veronica Williams had her best game of the season with 12 points, six rebounds, and three steals; and the Pirate defense was suffocating in VC's 63-28 win over Los Angeles Pierce College at the Athletic Event Center.  READ MORE...

 

  Jan. 4, 2006    Ventura trailed for 7.7 seconds of the 40-minute game at Santa Barbara.  Unfortunately for the Pirates it was the final 7.7 seconds as the Vaqueros ended VC's 114-game WSC winning streak with a 55-54 win in the conference opener for both teams.  READ MORE...

  Dec. 16, 2005    Sara Arciniega became just the second player in school history, and the first in 12 years, to take three charges in a game, and contributed 10 points and four steals as Ventura defeated ninth-ranked San Francisco 57-48 in the Ventura-Oxnard Crossover at Oxnard College.  READ MORE...

  Dec. 9, 2005    One day after experiencing their worst offensive game in decades, the Pirates bounced back with their highest scoring output of the season in an 85-77 win over a scrappy Imperial Valley team in the consolation semi-finals of the Rose City Classic in Pasadena.  READ MORE...

  Nov. 27, 2005    Blow-Out losses occur in Pirate Country less often than a blue moon, but unfortunately for Ventura, one happened in the finals of the VC-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions on Sunday afternoon against Mt.   Nov. 26, 2005    Ventura rallied around periods of strong defense to advance to the championship game of the VC-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions with a 63-53 win over El Camino College.  The Pirates' offense sputtered once again, and VC's defense allowed the Warriors back into a game that was in hand, but VC persevered to set up a showdown against the state's #2-ranked team, Mt.   Nov. 25, 2005    The Pirates continued their refinement, using a stingy defense to defeat Contra Costa College 64-36 in the opening round of the VC-Kiwanis Tournament of Champions.  Ventura will play El Camino College in the tournament semifinals on Sat.   Nov. 20, 2005    For the second straight night, the Pirates erased a 10 point halftime disadvantage, but this time VC fell short, losing 80-71 to Antelope Valley in the championship game of the Vaquero Shootout at Glendale College.  READ MORE...

 

  Nov. 19, 2005    Ventura eliminated a nine point halftime deficit in the first five minutes of the second half en route to a 62-54 victory over LA Southwest College in the semifinals of the Glendale College Vaquero Shootout Medina Britt led the Pirates' efforts to the championship game of the tournament on Sunday at 4pm.  READ MORE...

  Nov. 14, 2005    The Pirates showed periodic signs of future greatness in defeating San Bernardino Valley College 51-29 in the team's 2005-06 season opener.  Rebecca Kolbeck led a balanced VC attack with 10 points while Katie Killebrew scored eight with five rebounds to lead the Pirates in their first win in an opening game since the 2002-03 season.  READ MORE...
