The
scoreboard showed a 64-55 victory
for the Pirates Saturday night at LA
Pierce. The reality was that
it took a 13-2 VC run in the final
five minutes of the game for the
Pirates to defeat a much improved
and legitimate conference contender
in the LA Pierce Brahmas. READ

(From
the Ventura County Star, by Joe Curley) It
begins again tonight. Whether the present will mimic the
past is becoming increasingly difficult to determine.
Ventura
College's hardcourt dominance of the Western State
Conference's North Division will be tested this winter as
the men's team adjusts to an injury plague at the point
guard position and the women's team prepares for one of the
toughest races in memory. READ

Observers could trace Ventura's 52-48 overtime loss to
Antelope Valley Friday evening at the Athletic Event Center
back to one pass, one shot, or one defensive possession;
looking for a reason for the loss. But they would be
missing the point, because at VC playing hard is the
ultimate goal, not winning, and the Pirates gave a great
effort despite the loss. READ

(From the Ventura County
Star; by Joe Curley) By
most estimations, there are four legitimate front-runners
for this season's California community college women's
basketball state championship. Split
up equally between the South — Mount San Antonio (17-0)
and Pasadena (15-0) — and North, San Joaquin Delta (14-1)
and Reedley (15-2), the quartet have combined to go 6 this
season. One of the losses? Reedley's 81-54 loss to
Ventura Dec. 3 in the Gilchrest Invitational in
Visalia. READ

Ventura Head
Coach Ned Mircetic
has directed VC for 561 games over the past 16-plus
seasons. During that time, a Pirate has collected
three charges in a game just four times, and the fourth was Sara
Arciniega's
third in Ventura's 77-49 victory over San Francisco in the
final game of the Canyons Crossover Classic in Santa
Clarita. READ
