"Classy" Teams Take Home Highest
WBCA Honor Off the Court
NCAA Divisions I, II, III,
NAIA & JC/CC Schools Gain Recognition
in the 2006-2007 Academic Top 25 Honor Roll
Atlanta, Ga. -- The
Women's Basketball
Coaches Association (WBCA)
announced its 2006-2007 Academic Top 25 Team
Honor Roll for NCAA Division I, NCAA
Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and
Junior College/Community College. The awards
recognize teams throughout the nation that
have the highest grade point averages (GPA)
for the 2006-2007 season based upon
nominations submitted by WBCA-member
coaches.
Only 20 of those are junior or community college teams.
The Ventura College Women’s Basketball Team
made the list for the fourth straight year,
and is the only California team so named.
The Pirates earned a cumulative 3.272
GPA throughout the academic year to place
seventh on the national list, their highest
placing ever. VC was the Conference Champion
for the 17th year in a row for the 2006-07
year, as well.
"It always brings the WBCA esteemed pleasure
to recognize such prominent women's
basketball programs that have committed
themselves on the hardwood and in the
classroom," said WBCA CEO Beth Bass. "Each
of these teams lead by example and have set
a benchmark of success academically among
their peers and in the sport."
