Pirates Earn
3.35 GPA For Fall
Jan. 22, 2008 We
Play Hard could be changed to We Study Hard for
the 2007-08 Ventura College Pirates Women's Basketball Team.
The team posted a 3.35 team GPA for the Fall 2007 Semester,
besting the 3.17 they achieved a year ago in the fall.
The 3.35 is the best fall GPA in recent memory for the
Pirates.
Sophomore
Jessi
Selleh led the team with a third consecutive term with a
perfect 4.0 GPA. She was followed closely by
sophomores
Lindsay Trout (3.75),
Indira Kaljo (3.63), and
Jenelle Conklin (3.60).
Jessica Jameson led the freshman class with a 3.57 GPA.
In all, 10 of the 12 players earned a 3.0 GPA or better.
VC
has long emphasized achievement in the
classroom. In
Ned Mircetic's
17-plus years as head coach, 78 student athletes
have matriculated from Ventura College to attend
school at a four-year institution.
The
team has been recognized in five of the past six seasons for academic prowess, as well.
The 2002 state championship team was recognized
as the COA State Scholar Team, the first team
ever to win the championship on the court and in
the classroom. (The second and only other team
to complete this double-double was the VC Men's
Swim Team in 2005.) The 2007 team has a
pending nomination for the state scholar team
award with the results due this spring.
The
Pirates have been recognized in each of the past
four seasons on the Women's Basketball Coaches
Association Academic Honor Roll for community
and junior colleges.
